The NHS has planned extensively to deliver the largest vaccination programme in our history. This will be a huge task.
Now that we have a vaccine that has been confirmed as safe and effective by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), we can begin to roll it out to those groups who the independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) have decided need it most.
Vaccines are our best defence against the virus alongside effective social distancing, wearing a mask and washing your hands.
The NHS is working closely in partnership with local councils in Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington to roll out vaccines when the supplies are available.
As part of this, the NHS is recruiting extra people, to ensure they can continue to provide the vital health services that we all rely on.
Parliament recently changed the law to allow a wider group of people with health and care backgrounds to undertake training to deliver vaccines, such as pharmacists, dentists and healthcare scientists – as well as others with first aid qualifications who can complete appropriate training.
The NHS is now calling on local people, who have experience of vaccinating or are willing to be trained, to come forward to support the vital next phase in the health service’s COVID-19 response. You could work in a variety of local settings set up to vaccinate eligible groups of people.
They also need recruits with strong people and organisational skills who will also play a vital role in delivering the programme.
There will be a number of paid and voluntary roles offered on a flexible basis, to help you fit around other responsibilities. So if you are looking to take a first step into health and social care – or perhaps switch careers – this is a great opportunity for you.
Practical training, supervision and PPE will be provided for all roles to ensure your safety and that of other people.
