North London Partners in health and care

Launch of NCL Volunteering PLUS Network

Representatives from Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington local authorities, NHS hospital trusts, the voluntary and community sector, residents and representatives from Public Health attended the online launch of the NCL Volunteering PLUS Network on Tuesday July 14.

The network, which is facilitated by the Volunteering PLUS Partnership, will look at how volunteering can be better integrated across north central London (NCL) to support the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities, opportunities for employment and help achieve improved health and care outcomes.

Tendai Wileman, Director of Programme Delivery, North London Partners in health and care, said: “It is inspiring to hear from such a variety of people and organisations involved in volunteering, there is so much we can do together. We’re confident that we will be able to use the collective learnings and experiences to enhance and develop a consistent volunteer experience across NCL integrated care system that will help to address our health and care priorities.”

Dominic Pinkney, Volunteering Plus Network chairman, said one of the purposes of the network was to encourage managers of volunteers to think about how they can involve volunteers better to support the delivery of NCL’s five health and care priorities; as well as sharing ideas and scrutinising action plans to ensure an integrated approach to volunteering and make best uses of the resources available.

Network members shared their experiences and learning about the volunteer response to Covid-19 and discussed how these can be used to develop volunteering across North Central London. All recognised the significant importance of volunteers in tackling the challenges presented by Covid-19.

The group also discussed the NHS Volunteer Responder service and how this might be developed to support local schemes and initiatives during and after the recovery phase.

The next NCL Volunteering PLUS Network meeting will take place in September. It is provisionally scheduled for 17th September at 10.30am. If you would like to get involved, please contact any of the following:
