Primary Care response to Covid-19

During the pandemic GPs across NCL have been working collectively to ensure that we can continue to provide consistent high quality primary care to all residents.

GP practices have embraced new ways of working, including adopting a remote triage model, where patients who contact their practice are first assessed on the phone or online, without needing to go to the practice. Patients are then managed remotely via a phone or video consultation, wherever this is possible.

Practices have worked together to set up services for people with Covid-19 symptoms who need a face to face appointment; there are designated sites and specialist home visiting teams in each borough.

Practices across NCL are also continuing to deliver services for patients who have care needs not related to Covid-19, including care for patients who have been advised to stay at home. Essential services, such as baby immunisations, are still being provided. Patients who are assessed as needing to be seen face to face by a health care professional can have an appointment in their usual surgery, as long as they and members of their household are not experiencing Covid-19 symptoms.
