Clinical Advice and Guidance use up by 63%
North London Partners’ Clinical Advice and Guidance (CAG) service continues to go from strength to strength. In March 2019 there were 1,381 CAG referrals made compared to 512 in March 2018 - an increase of 63%.
For the first time in north central London (NCL) each of the four main acute trusts, (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Whittington Health NHS Trust, North Middlesex University Hospital, and Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust) exceeded their target of responding to 80% of CAG requests within two working days
The North Middlesex University Hospital has worked hard to ensure 89% of CAG requests in March received a response within two days.
The service is for GPs to access advice from a consultant of a particular specialty when they are considering making a hospital referral.
The increase in take up is good news for patients who may be saved unnecessary face-to-face outpatient appointments. It will also provide GPs with a good opportunity to increase their clinical knowledge and skills and it is beneficial for consultants who can use their expertise and knowledge to see the appropriate patients sooner.
CAG continues to be an important initiative for NCL and is helping provide the foundations for the future work that is currently being scoped around system-wide outpatient transformation.
