Improving asthma services for our children and young people

Arsenal Football Club is the venue for a series of engagement workshops aimed at local children and young people to ensure their views are taken into account and help shape the north-central (NCL) London Asthma Plan.

Last September North London Partners (NLP) held its first system-wide workshop which identified and agreed five key outcomes that will underpin the NCL Asthma Plan. These include enabling children, young people and families with asthma to receive the appropriate treatment, at the right time, in the right place and are helped to stay as healthy as possible.

During January and throughout February NLP has been further developing and refining the plan by bringing together a range of professionals from different sectors, such as health, social care, public health, housing and environment, and gathering their views in a series of local workshops.

Sam Rostom, NLP Programme Director for Children and Young People, said: “I’m passionate about engaging children and young people in this work and ensuring their views and those of their families and carers inform our work.  We must understand from their perspective how the system could better support them in managing their asthma.

“Following our engagement and design work, our aim is to launch our NCL whole-system plan on World Asthma Day, Tuesday 7th May 2019.
